FAQ

Where and when do you meet?

Please visit our Locations and Times page for the most current information.

What is the time commitment for E-Karate?

Our classes meet once a week and run in 11 week sessions. Each class lasts one hour. Please see the class notice for further information about time commitment.

What are your class sizes like?

We have a maximum of 10 students per class. We work to maintain a very low teacher to student ration ( 1:1 or 1 to 2 as needed) to maximize the personal attention a student may need.

How much does it cost?

Nothing. The teachers are all volunteers and location is donated. If a child decides to make a serious commitment to the class, we ask they purchase a "gi" (karate uniform). These cost about $25 dollars.

What kind of children do you accept in the class?

We accept children with various special needs, from Autism and ADHD to cerebral palsy. We also accept typically developing children in order to serve as peer helpers, and to provide a framework of inclusive learning. Each child is assessed individually to determine if E-Karate would be a good "fit." Please feel free to come observe a class or contact a head instructor to discuss the appropriateness of E-Karate for your child.

What do you teach?

We teach children the importance of respect and self-discipline through the applications of martial arts. In the class they learn to respect each other and themselves, as well as develop respect for instruction. Students learn the value of effort and discipline as they advance in rank and become more proficient at karate. Because of the diverse backgrounds of the instructors the children learn useful techniques from various Karate styles.
